Marriage

And the two shall become one. Mark 10:8

In Christian marriage, a couple makes a public, lifelong covenant before God and the community: and becomes a small church of its own, a home where faith is lived and handed on.

A covenant of life, faith, and love.

A gift of grace

Christian marriage is a public covenant of faithful love, blessed by God and lived as a domestic church.

In celebrating the union of two people committed to each other for life, the Christian community sees a public covenant: a promise made before God and the parish to live as faithful Christians in the world, and to build what the Church calls a domestic church: a home where children are raised in the faith.

Because this commitment is public and Christian by nature, the ceremony takes place in the church building, ideally the couple's own parish church. A priest or deacon must be present as the Church's official witness: but it is the couple who administer the sacrament to each other.

Common questions

What if I am not sure this is the right next step?

Call or write the parish office. Asking a question does not commit you to anything.

Which church should I contact?

One parish office serves all four churches. We will help route the request to the right place.

How quickly will someone reply?

The office handles sacrament questions during regular hours. For grave illness or danger of death, call any time and say it is an emergency.
